Adjustable gastric band

Reversible operation in which a band of a special material is put around the stomach to adjust it (tighten), which reduces its capacity to house food producing a quick satiation.

Possible complications:
Rejection of the band or adverse reactions in the stomach and it may have to be relocated.
Stomach infection
Band slipping and bag dilation: the band may slip downwards excessively enlarging the bag (part of the stomach above the band)

The loss of weight excess vary between a 50% to 60% during the first three years after the surgery.

Alarm Guidelines for Cranial Trauma.

During the following 24 to 48 hours of having a brain trauma, you must check:
_ Persistent headache.

_ Drowsiness or sleepiness outside normal hours. Lack of memory.
_ Changes of character.
_ Altered vision (double vision, blurred vision).
_ Balance disorders.
_ Abnormal movements appearance. From eye movement disorders to seizures.
During the night, the patient must be waken up every two or three hours and talk to him/her (ask his/her name, if he/she remember what happened…).

Aldosterone

Aldosterone is a steroid or mineralocorticoid hormone, produced by adrenal glands (glands located above the kidney). Its main function is to help the body regularizing blood pressure.
Aldosterone test measures the amount of this hormone in blood.
For the test of aldosterone a sample of blood is taken from a vein (venipunture)
Normal value: 4 - 31 ng/dL (111 - 858 pmmol/L)
Normal values can vary based on the laboratory and sodium consumed in diet
