Dexamethasone suppression test
It’s an examination that measures if the hormone corticotropin (ACTH) can be inhibit (suppressed) by the pituitary gland, located in the brain.
For its examination, you will receive a corticoid called Dexamethasone. After this, a blood sample will be taken to measure the level or cortisol.
There are two tests of Dexamethasone suppression:
Low doses of Dexamethasone suppression test: you will receive 1 mg of Dexamethasone, oral at 11 PM and the Doctor will take a blood sample at 8 AM the next morning to measure cortisol.
High dose of Dexamethasone suppression test: you will receive 500 mg of Dexamethasone, oral, every 6 hours, for two days. A blood sample will be taken the next morning of the last dose to measure cortisol in blood. Two 24-hour urine samples (recollection of all urine of a day) will be also needed to measure cortisol in urine before and during the second day of the test.
Diet for Gastritis
Avoid food which irritates the stomach: coffee, strong spices (pepper, chilli, condiment sauces), alcohol, citrus foods (orange juice, lemon).
Drink enough water.
Eliminate the soda drinks.
Do not eat fatty or fried food.
Avoid taking aspirin
Increase the consumption of fibre in your diet:
-Whole-grains: rice, bread, breakfast cereals and whole-grain pasta; wheat germ, whole-grain oat, whole-grain crackers (sodas, macrobiotic)
-Pulses: chickpeas, lentils.
-Fruits (except citrus): apples, peaches, banana, watermelon, melon, plums.
-Raw and cooked vegetables: salads with lettuce, cabbage, cucumber, carrots, broccoli, zucchini, etc.
