Procedure used to obtain images of the bone system 2 hours after intravenous administration of a radiopharmaceutical which sticks to the bone. It's done to: evaluate fractures, diagnose inflammatory injuries, tumors, evaluate bone prothesis, and for evaluate the conditions and viability of the bone, among others.

bronchoalveolar lavage

Simple procedure by which, through a thin tube called bronchoscope, a small quantity of saline solution is introduced to the bronchi, it is later aspirated and analysed in search of a bacteria, fungus, malignant cells, etc.
It is used to diagnose different diseases of the bronchi and lungs.

Bronchoscopy

Invasive study which examines (and may take a sample) the airway (larynx, trachea and bronchi). The doctor use a thin and flexible or rigid tube which has lens and a light called bronchoscope; and visualizes the images on a video monitor.
It is generally performed under anaesthesia.

Bypass

Bypass is a surgical procedure that consists of making a bridge (or bypass) when the blood cannot flow properly due to a vessel obstruction.
To do a bypass segments of other veins or arteries, or even synthetic material, are used to create a bridge to overcome the obstacle and restore normal circulation.
There are different types of bypass based on the organ or area of the body in which it will be performed, for example if it is in the heart it will be a coronary or central bypass. If it is done in the limbs vessels, neck, or different organs, it will be a peripheral artery bypass.

carcinoembryonic antigen

Embryonic antigen is a protein that usually, after birth, disappears or has low values in blood. In an adult, the increase of this protein may be a signs of colon cancer.
A blood analysis can be done to know its value.
